We had the opportunity here at Materialise Malaysia to start off 2016 by living up to the Materialise motto: working towards a better and healthier world. With the help of some talented and generous people, I was able to make a real difference in a wonderful little boy’s life, with a 3D-printed hand. But between the original inspiration to do this, and the final, happy, day when Padmaloshn tried on his new hand for the first time, lay months of dedicated effort by various people. Meet Padmaloshn Vijayan, a cheerful little LEGO-building schoolboy from Kuala Lumpur. In all his young life, this capable 7-year-old has been performing his daily activities single-handedly: Padmaloshn was born without a fully developed right hand. Last year, he met Ayishwariya Menon, a volunteer teacher for a human values education program run weekly in his community — who also happens to be the clinical team manager at Materialise Malaysia. A few months later, Padmaloshn received his first 3D-printed experimental hand, designed by open-source community e-NABLE and printed by Materialise. Here’s how it all unfolded.

Ping Pong Tournament at Materialise Malaysia!

This spring marked the kick-off of the 3rd Ping Pong tournament at Materialise Malaysia, which was the grandest one yet! Composed of 37 players on 17 randomly-organized teams, everyone fought a hard battle despite not yet knowing their partners’ strengths and weaknesses. There were many interesting and unique pairs since Materialise Malaysia is known for its multiracial population. Besides Malaysians of Malay/Chinese/Indian descent, we also had a combination of players from Korea, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and, of course, Belgium!

Materialise Malaysia Runs for Benin!

Run for Benin is a yearly Materialise event to collect money for Benin, a country in West Africa. The run is hosted annually at Materialise HQ, but this year Materialise Malaysia also took part in hosting a run to help with the fundraising.
