Human body modeling for injury prediction and prevention: from image to FEA
Presented by Dr. Scott Gayzik, Assistant Professor of Bioengineering, Wake Forest University, USA
Computerized human models are an emerging tool used by scientists and engineers to mitigate injury and improve human health. Dr. Gayzik covers research from the Wake Forest University Center for Injury Biomechanics that has leveraged image data to develop a series of finite element-based human models. These models are used to study human response in accelerative loading environments, to deepen our understanding injury mechanisms and ultimately to improve safety systems. The research is funded by a consortium vehicle manufacturers and suppliers around the world, and resulting family of human models are currently in use by over 30 universities and government agencies worldwide.
