Our 3D printing journey at LRI – How our service evolved – Leicester Hospital

Graham Marshall is a Clinical Prosthetist with 10 years’ technical orthodontic experience, and 15 years in reconstructive science. He uses the Materialise software suite to produce custom made orbital floor implants, and 3D printed fibula-marking guides to rehabilitate Head and Neck patients at University Hospitals Leicester.

Matt Pilley is a specialist in Clinical Prosthetics with over 30 years’ experience in Prosthetic Rehabilitation and Fellow of the Institute of Maxillofacial Prosthetists and Technologists. He manages The Prosthesis Clinic, Maxillofacial Laboratory and 3D Printing Service at University Hospitals of Leicester, an accredited training unit for MSc in Reconstructive Science by the National School of Health Care Science. He lectures both nationally and internationally, and provides courses on the latest advances in Maxillofacial Prosthetics and associated materials.

Dr Greg Skinner MB BS MRCPCH – Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist

Graduated from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne 2004. Trained in general paediatrics from 2005-2011. Trained in paediatric cardiology from 2011. Appointed to Consultant post 2018. Sub-speciality interest in advanced echocardiography and cross-sectional imaging (especially cardiac CT). Keen interest in 3D segmentation, virtual surgical planning and 3D printing for complex congenital heart disease.

Dr Saravanan Durairaj MB BS DCH MRCPCH– Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist

Having been trained in India and across the Midlands in in London in the UK, Dr. Durairaj has a CCT in paediatrics with special expertise in cardiology, as well as a CCT in Paediatric Cardiology. He has developed expertise in cross-sectional imaging CT and MRI with a special interest in the field of 3D imaging and printing and promoting personalised precision medicine.

Mr Branko Mimic MD PhD – Consultant Congenital Cardiac Surgeon, Surgical Lead

He has been a Consultant Congenital Cardiac Surgeon at the East Midlands Congenital Cardiac Centre since November 2015 and surgical lead since 2017. A graduate of the Medical School, University of Belgrade in 2000, he worked at the University Children’s Hospital in Belgrade, including paediatric surgical and cardiac surgical training at the Medical School University of Belgrade. He trained in cardiothoracic surgery at the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London where he spent two years as a junior and senior surgical registrar. His major research interest has been myocardial protection which was part of his MD and PhD thesis. His special clinical interests include neonatal cardiac and aortic surgery. He is also interested in exploring the practical benefits of utilizing 3D imaging and printing in both preoperative planning and execution of challenging congenital cardiac procedures.
