Finishing Degrees for
Multi Jet Fusion
The right finish and color can transform a print into a product. Multi Jet Fusion parts have a stone-grey color and a smooth finish right out of the machine, which can be further smoothed and dyed darker.
Standard/Unpainted Finishes
Smooth
- Loose powder removed
- Sandblasted
- Smoothed: Your part is mechanically polished by being put into a tumbler with pebbles that smooth your part while the tumbler vibrates at a high frequency.
- We can only smoothen the A-side (the outside of your part), it’s not possible to completely polish the inside
- The polishing process will take 0.1 mm of material off your part, so add extra wall thickness to avoid any problems
- Small details and thin walls could be worn away and may even disappear
- Edges will be rounded and your part will become less’ crisp’ once polished
- The process is limited to parts ranging from ±30 to 200 mm
Extra Smooth
- Loose powder removed
- Sandblasted
- Smoothed: Your part is smoothed by being put into a chamber with a solvent that smoothens your part.
- We can mainly smoothen the outside of your part, it’s possible that the inside is smoothed less.
- The polishing process will take material off your part and requires a minimum wall thickness of 2 mm.
- Thinner walls (1mm) could deform and small surface details may disappear.
- Edges will be rounded and your part will become less’ crisp’ once smoothed.
